On a recent summer like fall day I had the opportunity to travel out to Storm King to view many works of art. The setting alone is a fine place to spend the day but the works there are something to marvel at. Seeing the works makes an impression- much different than viewing in a book. Interestingly the site of the park has been created and altered to best show some of the works. One of the ways this was done was to plant large swaths of switch grass in some of the large meadows. The consistency of the plantings really set off some of the work. The color of the grass contrasting with Calders " The Arch" is particularly pleasing. Andy Goldsworthys Wall though, needs no created contrast- it does fine creating its own.
